"The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life." (Catechism of the Catholic Church,
1407) The weekly celebration of the Eucharist on Saturday evening or Sunday morning defines who
we are as Catholics—in our parishes, in our households of faith, in our neighborhoods, and in our
world.
Gather in My Name (GIMN) now gives you "Question of the Week"—a handy, free resource to
incorporate the Sunday Eucharist into your religion classes (school and parish); faculty, pastoral
council, and staff meetings; choir rehearsals; finance committee sessions; and each household of
faith in your parish. Whenever and wherever you gather together, you can inspire faith sharing.
Using the catechumenate as your model, proclaim the Question of the Week (based on the weekly
gospel reading) to the whole community gathered before you—whether it be a grade four religion
class, or a staff meeting, or in your own home. Invite responses. You might want to further the
connection between the Sunday liturgy and your community gathering by offering the "Reflection &
Discussion" material on all the Sunday readings. It's really up to you and the needs of your community
gathered.
Lastly, whole community activities are provided for each week. These can be done anywhere and at
anytime. The activities have been specifically written so that they may be adapted to your particular
needs.
"Where do I find all of this?" you may ask. It's simple.
- Click on the GIMN home page. Here you have the current Sunday with that Sunday's readings.
Click on a reading or gospel reference to go to the actual scripture.
- Below the scripture references, you will see a link entitled "Reflection & Discussion." This contains
the "Question of the Week" based on the gospel reading (complete with discussion points and
reflection), as well as discussion questions and reflections for Reading 1 and Reading 2. You can
choose to use any or all of these, as you wish.
- When you click on the link "Whole Community Activities," you will find activity suggestions that
can be used by any or all of the households of faith in your parish.
- For planning purposes, be sure to click on the link "Upcoming Weeks" at the bottom of the
home page.
As you use GIMN "Question of the Week," you will discover more and more ways to incorporate this
material into the life of your parish community. Your pastor might invite the homilist to include the
"Question of the Week" during the homily at Sunday Mass. You might include the question in your
weekly bulletin or other handouts. You might link to this site from your parish web site to allow all
the households in your parish to access this vital and meaningful faith sharing.
However you inspire whole community catechesis with Gather in My Name, we are proud to offer this
free service to you.
